About the IUSSIThe International Union for the Study of Social InsectsThe International Union for the Study of Social Insects (IUSSI) is a scientific society dedicated to the study of social arthropods. These are primarily termites, ants, wasps, and bees. The society fosters scientific interchange by holding an International Congress every four years, by publishing a journal, Insectes Sociaux, and through the activities of its 15 regional sections. All scientists who study sociality in arthropods are invited to join the IUSSI and to subscribe to Insectes Sociaux.. Membership is through one of the regional sections; information about joining may be obtained by contacting the appropriate sectional secretary. Scientists not living in a region represented by a section may choose to affiliate with any appropriate section.
The next international congress of the IUSSI will be held in Australia in December, 1998. The President of the IUSSI, Prof. Ross Crozier, is the scientific organizer for the Congress. Registration information for the Congress will be available in late 1997 or early 1998 from Michael Schwartz, the Secretary of the Congress.
Insectes SociauxInsectes Sociaux is a quarterly journal that publishes scientific papers dealing with the biology of social arthropods. Subscription information concerning the journal can be obtained from section secretaries or from Prof. Michael Breed, the Secretary-General of the IUSSI.
