Mockingbirds … Mimus
The Bahama Mockingbirds (Mimus gundlachii) – also called Gundlach’s Mockingbirds – occur naturally on the following Caribbean islands: Bahamas, Cuba, Jamaica, and the Turks and Caicos Islands, where this bird is locally known as Sinsonte de Bahamas, Sinsonte Prieto or Sinsonte Prieto Spanish (in Cuba).
They are vagrant to the United States.
Within their ranges, the Bahama Mockingbirds inhabit subtropical or tropical dry forests, shrubland, and heavily degraded former forests.
Subspecies and Distribution:
- Mimus gundlachii gundlachii (Cabanis, 1855) – Nominate Race
- Range: Bahamas, Camagüey Archipelago (north coast of Cuba) and Turks and Caicos Islands Mimus gundlachii hillii (March, 1863)
- Found in Southern Jamaica.
