Rock Eagle Owl (Bubo bengalensis)

The Rock Eagle Owls (Bubo bengalensis) are large horned owls found in South Asia, where they inhabit hilly and rocky scrub forests, shrub deserts, evergreen forests, but appear to favor rocky places. They tend to avoid humid evergreen forests and pure deserts.

They are usually seen in pairs.

Description

Rock Eagle Owls are large owls have “tufts” on their heads. The plumage is splashed with brown and grey. They have a white throat patch with black small stripes.

Calls / Vocalizations

The calls are described as a deep resonant booming sounds that are mostly heard at dawn and dusk.

Diet / Feeding

They feed on small rodents and mammals, and sometimes birds.
