Little Raven

The Little Ravens (Corvus mellori) are found across southeastern Australia from southern South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales. They inhabit scrub, agricultural areas and grazing pasture.

This species used to be considered conspecific (one and the same species) with the Australian Raven, and was only separated in 1967, based mostly on vocal differences.

Breeding / Nesting

Little Raven often nest in a loose colony of up to fifteen pairs.

Diet

Little Raven feed on more vegetable matter than other ravens, but is believed to be omnivorous when opportunity arises.

Calls / Vocalizations

Their calls are described as“kar-kar-kar-kar” or “ark-ark-ark-ark”.
